Fans of “Duck Dynasty” are well aware of the difficulties that Jase Robertson and his wife Missy have faced due to their daughter Mia’s cleft lip and palate, which she has had to deal with since birth.
However, the couple has only recently decided to reveal what they went through while expecting their second child.
When Missy Robertson found out she was expecting another child in 2002, she already had two sons, Reed and Cole, whom she raised as her own. However, the bad news followed quickly after the good news.
Missy revealed in an interview with Closer magazine that she miscarried when she was between eight and ten weeks pregnant. This gave her “just enough time” to get excited about the pregnancy and start telling others.
Tubal pregnancy, as Missy experienced, refers to the situation in which the embryo implants in the fallopian tube rather than the uterus.
“I’d known about tubal pregnancies for years, but I didn’t realize the mental anguish of having to go in and have someone remove what could’ve been your child,” she explained.
“I didn’t realize the mental anguish of having to go in there and have someone remove what could’ve been your child. It was a challenging task.”
Following the tragedy, the couple did not have to wait long for something to rejoice; Missy soon discovered she was expecting another child, a girl named Mia. However, due to the nature of Mia’s congenital anomaly, their excitement was initially muted.
“When Mia walked out, I looked at her and thought, ‘This is going to be difficult,’” she explained. But, in the end, considering his long-term concerns for her health, he changed his mind.
“‘Why am I getting so worked up about how she’s going to look?’ I wondered. I just wanted her to be alive,” he explained.
During the season five finale of “Duck Dynasty,” viewers saw 11-year-old Mia undergo her fifth operation to manage her disease. She did so with bravery, with her family surrounding her at the time.
“Whenever I feel sad or have struggles, I know God is bigger than all of that,” Mia said.
Closer’s father assured her that as long as they were both alive, they could overcome any obstacle.
